The Vampires Night Orgy

The Vampires Night Orgy

Leon Klimovsky's 1972 vampire film 'La Orgia Nocturna De Los Vampiros' makes it way onto DVD for the first time from the good folk at Pagan Films in the UK.

'The Vampires Night Orgy' (as it simply translates to) involves the basic premise of a coach load of travellers, whom after their driver collapses dead they head to the nearest village - but when they get there, all in the village is not what it seems !

Creepy, atmospheric and stylishly directed - the appearance of this film onto DVD is a very welcome one indeed. Pagan have to be congratulated for their hand in tracking down and releasing such films as this, films that due to their obscurity would often be overlooked by fans of the genre.

Klimovsky's direction is nice throughout with some moments of great style. The scenes of groups of vampires lurching towards their victims was for me very reminiscent of Romero's Night of the Living Dead, and the lead 'Countess' vamp looks as though she's lept straight out of a Hammer vampire flick which is never a bad thing.

The plot, while simple enough, works very well - vampires, cannibalism and a hint of eroticism - and admittedly, while not always intentional, there's actually a few amusing moments too. A great touch is whenever food is needed at the local inn to feed the 'human' guests, some poor local vampire has to sacrifice an arm or a leg to replenish meat supplies, which leads to some great moments. Unintentionally amusing also is the English dubbing throughout the film which shows up some of the cornball dialogue, and as ever this adds to the enjoyment in the viewing experience.

The disc itself, whilst quite sparse in content, is nicely presented. It's the film you're here for and the print on show is very cool indeed. A nice sharp widescreen format which looks great considering the age of the film. There's also a collection of stills and lobby cards here that fans of the film will enjoy also.

So, fans of both Euro horror and the Vampire scene certainly wont go wrong picking this one up. Creepy, stylish and loads of fun - check it out !
