Tromeo & Juliet

Tromeo & Juliet

Troma main man Lloyd Kaufman slips back into the directors chair once again for his interpretation of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Now if you need the premise of the story explained to you then where the heck have you been ? (Obviously skipping class at school eh?)

Anyway, the plot involves two rival families - the Ques and the Capulets - and their respective offspring, Tromeo and Juliet who by chance meet and fall in love causing despair for the warring families. 'What the hell' I hear you cry !! What the bejeevers is Troma doing adapting a boring old love story for ? Well, don't despair as Tromeo & Juliet is everything you'd expect from Troma (and some!!)

Hilarious, fast paced, sexy and gory as hell - the film delivers the goods big time for Troma fans and shows that we really should hope for more of Lloyd Kaufman back directing. Packed with all the trademark Troma fun that we've come to love with earlier Kaufman productions like Toxic Avenger and Nuke 'Em High, Lloyd Kaufman shows again he has an inimitable style of his own that is vastly underated amongst the straight faced in the movie scene.

As well as the well handled direction, kudos must also go to not only the great scripting (loved the dialogue!!) but the casting also - with the leads putting on great performances all round (with a wicked show by Juliet's father and Debbie Rochon who is HOT! he he he !!)

Tromeo & Juliet is a must see for Troma fans, and anyone else that can appreciate a fun twist of Shakespeares work. And any students reading, tell your teacher to screen this for their class - they'll love it !! (Penis monster and all !!)

The disc is of the usual standard that we've come to know from Troma, the print is a generally very nice full screen format and as always there's a shit load of Tromatic extras. These include an entertaining selection of out-takes from the film, cast interviews, stills, trailers and a fascinating and fun audio commentary from Lloyd himself. Add to that all the usual Troma shenanigans (Troma Tour, test etc) you've got another fun evening of viewing.

So, all in all, a great fun flick that should amuse most. Though sadly there are still some knockers of Troma and their work, if Lloyd Kaufman keeps coming back with fun stuff like this and I'll be there with a smile on my face (roll on Terror Firmer !!)

Chill out, grab a few beers and enjoy some Shakespeare the way it was meant to be seen !!
