Premutos

Premutos

Now here's a pleasant treat, German director Olaf Ittenbach's gore extravaganza 'Premutos' reaches SGM via it's Spanish DVD release (and a very welcome surprise it is too!)

Let me start by saying I really didn't have a clue what I was in for when I slapped this one into the player, and my bewilderment wasn't helped by the fact that this release is only available in German or Spanish language with NO English subtitles. But hey, I'm very Euro minded and was open to give it a good bash...

The story, from what I could follow, seemed to have something to do with the Anti-christ, demons and a hero that's lived through many previous lifes before. Taking place through many time spans (the medi-evil age, World War, Christ's death/rebirth) and nowadays (of course) where we follow poor lad Mathias as he wallows in the misery of family life (and what a family - pervo sister and weapon obsessed dad !) Now, if that doesn't make much sense then go track the film down and make your own mind up as to what's going on.

What I can say though is that the film easily breaks through the language barrier to deliver one of the goriest and funniest films that I've seen in years. From the word go you are treated to a barrage of gory eye candy that will have genre fans whooping with delight, and add to that the slick visual humour that is rife throughout the film you've got an absolute winner of viewing pleasure !

Even without the full comprehension of the audio track and the constant leaps through time, 'Premutos' is a highly satisfying horror film that is both well written and directed (with an almost frenzied Peter Jackson feel to the proceedings). The last section of the film also will please fans of the zombie movie genre no end with a plotless onslaught of zombie attack mayhem complete with chainsaws and more exploding heads than Savini could muster up on one shoot !

The disc itself presents a nice enough full screen transfer with optional German and Spanish stereo audio tracks. There's some cool lengthy extras too (almost an hours worth!) with the obligatory Trailer and a great 'Making Of...' section that acts nicely as the icing on the cake for this fine release.

Manga Films (Spain) have made a great move indeed picking this one up for DVD release and any UK/US Producer worth their salt should be chasing the rights for this one for an English dubbed/subbed release ! (Listen up you guys - you have been warned !!)

An excellent romp of a horror flick. Highly recommeneded - go get it !!
