Grade Z fun in this schlocker from Juan Piquer Simon (he who also went on to make a hash of Shaun Hutson's cool book 'Slugs') about a deranged chainsaw welding maniac that slices up teenage schoolgirls to make up his own human jigsaw.

It's cheesey fun all the way with a brainless plotline that attempts to mimic the old italian faves and similarily brainless acting from old hams Christopher and Linda Day George who play the detective and the under-cover tennis instructor (yeah, you read right!) who are tracking down the madman.

The gore scenes are very nicely done, and there's something about chainsaw/teen action in movies that I really enjoy. I'm surprised that Troma didn't pick up on this as it's right up their street, but as it is Diamond have done a reasonable enough job for a low budget release (well it's not as bad as their earlier awful avoid at all costs 'Eaten Alive' release).

Full screen transfer, mono sound. Extras ? Don't make me laugh !! A cheap menu, a cheaper biography page and four (count 'em) chapters !! Well, for $6 - I can't really complain. I did really enjoy this little retro-cracker. Switch off the brain and crack open some beer and you too might just fall for it also !!

Footnote : I had to laugh - on transit from the US this disc was siezed by Customs officers. They had a good look at the cover - body of a dead female stitched together, chainsaw above. They read the back cover contents - 'bloody slasher', 'chainsaw welding madman', 'plenty of gore' and 'lots of gratuitious nudity'. Then thankfully they saw in big letters at the bottom 'Rated R', put the disc back in the box, sealed it and forwarded it on !! Who knows what's going on at the Customs office these days (and hey, I'm certainly not complaining !!)
