Dead Hate the Living

Dead Hate the Living

At last - a new zombie film arrives on the scene with the release of 'Dead Hate the Living' from Full Moon. The story follows a group of low budget horror film makers who sneak into an abandoned hospital to make their mini masterpiece. While filming they come across a real dead body then things start to go horribly wrong - zombie mayhem ensues!

Director Dave Parker is obviously a BIG fans of italian horror movies, in particular the films of the late great Lucio Fulci. The film is peppered throughout with numerous references to genre classics which will have you chuckling away. These references are not only restricted to the script but also some of the zombie setpieces too, which many fans will both groan and cheer at (wait till you see the finale!). Also considering the budgetary constraints that the film had I couldn't help but be totally impressed with the excellent zombie make-ups which are the best I've seen in years.

The disc itself presents the film in a nice crisp fullscreen format (well it is a new film!) and there are more extras than you can shake a stick at. There's an excellent Behind the Scenes documentary which I thoroughly enjoyed (complete with one of the funniest zombie out-takes ever!!), a very cool short film with the band Penis Flytrap (who also provide the great title music) as well as all the usual expected DVD extras (trailer, stills, filmographys etc).

Personally, I feel that there are too few zombie films being made these days and 'Dead Hate...' is a welcome addition to the scene. So what - it may just be a cinematic tip of the hat to what has gone before, but who cares when it is so much fun!! Zombie fans - go buy it!!
