The Hangman's Daughter

The Hangman's Daughter

P J Pesces third instalment of the 'From Dusk till Dawn' series involves outlaw Johnny Madrid on the run from the Hangman with his long suffering daughter Esmeralda in tow.

A strange one this film, but a good one nonetheless. This third part is in fact a prequel to the first movie and if you haven't seen any of the Dusk series should be viewed this way.

Like the first film in many ways, seeming like two films stuck togeher in the middle. The first section of the film is an entertaining homage to the spaghetti western genre, great direction, cool shoot-outs and some excellent characterisation. It drops off a tad in the middle then comes romping back in the guise of an old school vampire classic when Esmeralda discovers her true birthright. Killing and mayhem ensue in what is basically the standard Dusk finale, but some entertaining gore and the old vampire film feel gives it some edge.

The disc itself is very sparse, the print is a crisp widescreen with a really nice use of Dolby Surround (lots going on aurally), but only one deleted scene (which is worth a chuckle) and that's your lot. Not even the standard trailer that we've all come to expect.

That said though, fans of the series won't be disapointed. A entertaining spaghetti-vampire romp for fans of the old school movies of those particular genres. Check it out!
