Dance of the Demons

Dance of the Demons

Hey, one of my favorite horror films wings its way onto DVD once again but this time under a different title. Yes folks, its Lamberto Bava's 'Demons', only here we shall now know it as 'Dance of the Demons' ?!!

'Demons' has the very simple (and fun) premise that involves a mysterious masked man (played by italian flick cameo fave and erstwhile director Michele Soavi) who is giving out free passes to a special screening of a new un-named movie which is screening at the freshly re-opened Metropole cinema in the heart of Berlin.

The patrons soon discover that what they're there to see is a gory horror flick (in the style of an gory Italian Scooby Doo), but what very quickly happens is that the gruesome action on-screen soon becomes reality in the cinema hall !!

Gory mayhem ensues while the plot is swiftly thrown out the window and all hell literally breaks loose in a visual and aural feast that has become a firm favourite with horror fans around the world.

Zombies on speed in this Italian horror classic. Thumping music and screaming victims getting chased around like sheep being herded to the slaughter, lovely stuff.

Produced by that man Argento, it's frantic entertainment at it's best. Indeed one of my personal favorites (when first released here in the UK on video I watched this gem three times back to back, sad eh) it is highly recommended.

Dragon Films have done a fine job with this release using a nice uncut widescreen print which has a vibrant soundtrack that utilised all my surround speakers nicely. The fascinating thing about this release is bizarrely the german audio track which contains loads more dialogue than any other version I have seen (check out the opening title sequence to see what I mean) - if only my knowledge of german was more fluent as this would make this an exciting bonus to obsessive fans like myself who would love to hear the fully scripted soundtrack option - ah well !!

Extras wise, there's the expected Theatrical trailer, some nice detailed filmographys and two interesting interview segments with Dario Argento. The first will be familiar to Argento fans from the previously released 'behind the scenes' documentary of his work but the second I hadn't seen before which was very interesting (I always enjoy listening to what Mr Argento has to say!)

A fine release from Dragon, more so for Region 2 Pal readers that have only been subjected to a trimmed version from Divid in the UK. Check it out !
