Combat Shock

Combat Shock

Buddy Giovinazzo's massively underated low budget tale of poverty, crime and drug addiction in Post-Nam America gets a deserved DVD release by Troma.

Combat Shock (originally titled "American Nightmare") is a brutally harrowing and tragic piece of Independent cinema. For a low budget movie, it is amazing to see such a quality movie. Not only is it both amazingly well scripted and directed but the lead roles played by (director Buddy's brother) Ricky Giovinazzo and Veronica Stork are brilliant in their roles.

Though this is a Troma release don't expect any laughs watching this gem. Just when you think things can't get any more depressing, they do. Tragic but essential viewing - it'll stick in your mind for ages after.

The disc itself contains a very nice full Directors Cut of the movie, as well as great commentary by director Buddy Giovinazzo and Necromantic main man Jorg Buttgereit. Strangely though the rest of the usual Troma extras seem totally out of place in comparison to main film itself. Still, if you're open to quality independent films - this one's for you.
