Deadly Camp

Deadly Camp

Now here's a strange but welcome slice of horror entertainment! You see, I believe that apart from a small number of independent film makers that the western horror scene truly is dwindling, and that the asian scene is where it's at for fresh and exciting genre cinema.

Now what happens when these asian film makers overdose on slasher movies like 'The Burning' and 'Friday the 13th', well, you get 'Deadly Camp'!

This great little slasher flick concerns a group of teenagers who make their way to a seemingly deserted island for a weekend of teen frollicking fun, but as you would expect (and hope for!) they're not the only ones there. As well as a gang of hapless criminals (camping in a nearby tent, go figure!) there's also a completely insane festering killer and his retarded son who ain't too keen on visitors to their island.

Let the killing commence, as the aforementioned killer mows his way through all and sundry (stopping only now and again to fetch playthings for his son) in this first rate tribute to the slasher genre which should have fans of this particular scene grinning in bemusement (and on occassion disbelief!)

The disc is fair enough, but not brilliant. The widescreen print whilst not pin sharp is adequate, pretty much like a decent VHS tape. The subtitles though are that annoying cross mix of both english and cantonese and things aren't helped in the first section of the movie when the white subs are virtually unreadable against the white shirts of the cast onscreen. That said though, the minimal plot means there should be no despair on the part of the viewer.

There's nothing else on the disc apart from the film itself, which although even a trailer would have been nice, it's no great loss when you consider that you should be able to pick up this disc from Hong Kong for very little cost at all.

If you're longing for the good old days of the proper teen slasher then you really won't go wrong picking this lovely wee oddity up. Check it out!
