Bird with the Crystal Plumage

Bird with the Crystal Plumage

Dario Argento's 1969 explosion onto the giallo scene was with great style when "Bird with the Crystal Plumage" was released. An american writer (played by Tony Musante) stumbles across an attempted murder at a gallery he is passing and gets sucked into a misadventure of killing and intrigue on the streets of Rome.

Very much in the style of Alfred Hitchcock, "Bird" is a murder mystery classic with all the right ingredients - brilliant script, great casting and sumptious direction. This was to be the beginning of a slew of fantastic films from the master of the Italian horror scene.

I don't wan't to go into the details of the film itself as this would detract from any newcomers viewing entertainment but will just say give it a watch, you won't regret it.

The disc itself is very nice indeed, restored to it's fully uncut widescreen glory, VCI have also mastered a Dolby Surround track too (though this wasn't very evident on the disc viewed). The usual trailer and biographies are there too (and a mention for the excellent Dark Dreams website), but the addition of the film's soundtrack as an extra has to be commended highly, an excellent innovation that all other companies should take note of. Well done VCI !

So, a brilliant film and a well produced disc. Highly recommended to new and old fans of the great Dario Argento - Buy It !!
