Bio-Zombie

Bio-Zombie

Wilson Yip's Bio-Zombie follows the antics of two layabout VCD bootleggers Woody Invincible and Crazy Bee (check those names out!) who accidentally come across a Lucozade bottle filled with bio-chemicals that have the power to turn whoever drinks it into one of the living dead !!

We follow the pair and the motley crew of shop owners in the mall where they work in the comic misadventures that follow when they all get locked in the mall for the night when the zombie mayhem ensues. Yeah, I know the plot sounds downright ridiculous but the film surprisingly is an absolute winner that will please both zombie and chinese film fans alike.

The film moves along at a great pace and the humour is both thick and fast with an ensemble of well casted and humorous characters that will keep your interest right to the end of this little seen gem.

Wilson Yip's direction has a lot to explain for the film's entertainment value, it's delivery has a lot more to offer than a lot of the western filmakers are offering these days.

While not overtly gory, there's still enough graphic action to please fans of the undead. The whole zombie scenario is an obvious tip of the hat to Romeros' Dawn of the Dead, with many shots that will be indentifiable to Dawns many fans.

A very satisfying viewing experience that is highly recommended. A sort of Kevin Smith (Clerks) meets Dawn of the Dead - witty, stylish and bags of fun.

The print quality of the film contained n the disc is very nice indeed, a nice sharp widescreen image with easy to read english subtitles. Though the subtitles on occasion add to the humour also with some very dubious translations. The audio though is not so great mixed very low, but thankfully the original dialogue is not a big deal here (unless of course you're an asian viewer). Not a lot to offer on the extras front either, though there is an alternate ending and a couple of trailers to boot.

That said, this is indeed a great little movie that's worth taking the time to check it out - nice one !!
