Army of Darkness

Army of Darkness

Sam Raimi's Army of Darkness is a true cinematic classic. The third and final instalment in the Evil Dead trilogy follows the misadventures of Ash (played as ever by SGM's favorite ham 'n' egger Bruce Campbell). Thrust back in time to the Dark Ages, poor Ash unwittingly gets roped into retreiving the Book of the Dead for the locals, in order to get back to his own time.

Army is a crazy ride of a movie, a Jason and the Argonauts for the 90's with all the usual frantic Renaissance humour a la Three Stooges. An absolute delight of a movie which will only become more popular as time goes on.

The disc itself is great value. Fans though should go out their way to pick up the 2 disc set. As well as the studio's cut of the film you get the directors cut which contains 15 minutes of additional footage not previously seen in the states . And two different endings to boot.

The only minor criticism is on the directors disc there is some dodgy grain showing in the nightime finale making it sometimes hard to see what the hell's going on, but that said it has to be seen.

The addition of deleted scenes, an excellent documentary "Men behind the Army", trailer, commentary by fan favorites Raimi and Campbell and loads more make this an essential purchase for any horror/fantasy fan.

Bloody brilliant - buy it !!
